There are currently seven companies in the Seven Spires portfolio. These companies are spread fairly widely across the technology sector and each one has strong intellectual property. They all have products which are potentially disruptive, through price, functionality or both. In each investment round, Seven Spires has been the largest single investor. Our average investment amount in each company is over £1m.

Advancesis-
Advanced silicon substrates for next-generation semiconductors

Advancesis has great expertise in hetero-epitaxy and has developed protected technology for global, bi-axially strained silicon platforms. Advancesis strained silicon wafers exhibit exceptionally low defect rates even at very high levels of strain.

Lein Applied Diagnostics-
Non-invasive blood glucose measurement

Lein have developed a non-invasive, optical method to determine blood glucose levels through observation of various characteristics of the eye. The current, table-top device will be engineered down to a pocket device with which a clinician or diabetic can rapidly determine glucose level. The method is particularly effective for children or those with reduced motor skills when compared with finger stick and other methods.

Metalysis-
Electrolytic winning of high-value metals

Metalysis are developing the Cambridge FFC process for direct reduction of metal oxides to metals in molten salt. As the metal is not melted, the process has low energy inputs and low environmental impact through emissions. It can handle some materials and processing situations not possible any other way.

Chairman: Lord (Roger) Freeman

Oxsensis-
Optical sensors for extreme environments

Oxsensis have developed proprietary technology for measuring pressure and other physical variables at extremely high temperatures. An early application is pressure sensing inside gas turbines engines. Oxsensis devices will help create substantial reductions in greenhouse gases and fuel consumption when incorporated into engine control systems.

Radiation Watch-
Handheld, spectroscopic radiation monitors

Radiation Watch have a series of products for rapid determination of ionising radiation sources. These are completely portable, handheld and belt-worn devices. Their capabilities include spectroscopic analysis and isotopic determination of the source..

Silistix-
CHAIN - Chip-area Interconnect

The company has developed an advanced EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tool for rapid, custom creation of on-chip networks. The networks are specifically designed for connecting together disparate IP blocks on ASIC devices. The networks have low power requirements and the ability to modularise the timing closure problem.

Chairman: Phil Bishop (also CEO of Celoxica)

Warwick Effect Polymers-
Synthesis of functionally-designed block co-polymers

WEP are experts in the synthesis of block, comb and dendritic polymers. Their proprietary technology gives very tight control over the ranges of molecular weight. Early applications include cosmetics, inks and dispersants.
